Pinnacles National Park Condor Trip
June 2 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Join Ralph Baker Sunday, June 2, for a visit to Pinnacles National Park to look for the magnificent California Condor. We’ll explore the areas around Bear Gulch Day Use Area and the campgrounds, and maybe Old Pinnacles Trailhead, time permitting. Some of the species we may encounter, besides the condor, could include Band-tailed Pigeon, Greater Roadrunner, Vaux’s Swift, Costa’s and Allen’s Hummingbirds, Golden Eagle, Hairy Woodpecker, Violet-green Swallow, Wrentit, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, California Thrasher, Phainopepla, Purple Finch, Lawrence’s Goldfinch and Bell’s Sparrow. And there’s an outside chance we might scare up a Common Poorwill, Western Screech-Owl or Northern Saw-whet Owl if we look hard enough.
We will meet at McDonald’s, 13032 CA-33, Santa Nella, at 8:00am. From there it’s approx. another 1:15 to the park entrance kiosk, so if anyone wants to meet at the park entrance, we should be arriving at approx. 9:15.
There is an entrance fee of $30 per vehicle, so carpooling is strongly encouraged.
Bring lunch, as this will be an all-day trip, plus water and your usual birding accouterment.
